Emmet County Recycling's Document Shredding Service

Where and When

Document shredding service is offered at the Pleasantview Road Drop-off Center. (7363 South Pleasantview Road, east of Harbor Springs). Stop at the gatehouse and the attendant will show you where to go.

Drop Off Any Time We're Open

You can drop-off documents for shredding anytime the Pleasantview Road Drop-off Center is open: 8-4 weekdays and 8-3 Saturdays. You will see that your documents are locked up in a fenced area of our processing facility. This document storage cage is also under surveillance to ensure your documents are secure until they are shredded.

Fees

$10 per copy-paper/small bankers box or equivalent, for example:

  • Two brown paper grocery bags $10
  • Large bankers box $12

Preparation

Please do not bring your documents in garbage bags larger than 12 gallons. (12 gallons is the size of the white “tall kitchen bags.”) We have found that handling big floppy bags of documents is awkward and could injure our staff person--or you, loading and unloading them! It is fine to bring your documents in: small to medium-size boxes (i.e. copy paper boxes, small bankers' boxes, plastic file drawers) or paper grocery bags.

Please remove:

  • binder clips
  • binders and spiral-bound booklets/pads
  • hanging folders (with metal support bars)
  • file folders with fasteners (i.e. from medical files)
  • intensely colored papers and/or file folders
  • glue or staple-bound booklets/pads larger than a checkbook

Sorting charges may be added to boxes that are not properly prepared.

There is no need to remove:

  • light cardboard
  • manila file folders
  • pastel colored papers
  • staples
  • paper clips
  • tape
